Frequently Asked Questions

How does it work?

On asking for help, we will arrange for you to meet with one of our trained debt advisers.

We will discuss your situation with you and find out how we can help.

We will help you prepare a budget, prioritising important bills like rent, food, utilities and other essentials.

We can contact your creditors (the people that you owe money to) on your behalf and negotiate with them.

We can offer a range of help, including debt repayment plans and insolvency options, such as Debt Relief Orders.

We can also offer 1:1 budgeting help and support.

How much does it cost?

All our services are completely free, with absolutely no hidden charges or donations.

Who can we help?

We are open to anyone, regardless of race, religion, background or lifestyle. We can help any individuals or couples who have some form of income, whether it is from a job or from benefits.

What if I have business debts?

Unfortunately we are unable to help with business debts and so if you need help, we recommend that you call Business Debtline on 0800 197 6026.

What are we not able to do?

Huntingdon Area Money Advice can give you free advice, set up your budget and negotiate with your creditors, but there are a few things that we can’t do.

We can't lend you money, pay your debts for you or provide advice on investments.

Your debts won’t go away if you do nothing, so we urge you to seek help as soon as possible.
